No-code Development, The Time is Now

A recent report by Forrester shows how companies are looking to build more software quickly and as a result, smaller vendors are well-placed to tackle giants such as Microsoft and emerge victorious.
 
According to the report, about half of Applications Development and Delivery professionals have either adopted low-code platforms or plan to do so soon. What’s more, some vendors say that low-code is the way to go, others say the end goal is to reach a no-code solution.
 
Microsoft’s Power
 
Microsoft’s low-code development platform consists of two products, Power Apps for application development and Power Automate for process automation. Although both of these products are relatively young, in true Microsoft style, the combination is already a leader in the market with Application Development and Delivery adoption running alongside others such as Salesforce and OutSystems.
 
The opportunities for low-code vendors
 
As we see more and more companies wanting internal business functions to use low-code applications rather than rely on their IT department to be the sole guardians of technology-based solutions, the demand for off-the-shelf business automation products is rapidly rising. And this is where the opportunity lies for smaller vendors to compete and overtake Microsoft’s current lead.
 
According to Forrester, in order to steal this lead, vendors must either ‘out-execute Microsoft’ or ‘find a niche that centres on specific use cases, industries, geographies, customer sets and/or technologies.’
 
No-code - the ultimate and achievable goal
